Help Foxie, Negra and Jody's children
There are approximately 1,100 chimpanzees in laboratories in the United States. 202 of these chimpanzees have been warehoused at the Alamogordo Primate Facility (APF) for ten years, and now they are slated to be transferred to a Texas laboratory for possible invasive biomedical research.

None of these chimpanzees deserve this fate, but it's become an even more personal issue for us. We have recently discovered that at least four of the chimpanzees currently at APF are children of the Cle Elum Seven:

Foxie's son David lives at APF. He was one of a set of twins born in 1986. The other twin, Steve, is deceased.

Negra's daughter Heidi is currently at APF.

Jody's son Levi and daughter April are both listed as being at APF.

David, Heidi, Levi and April cannot advocate for themselves. They desperately need you to help them.

Please contact the Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius and tell her to halt the transfer of the 202 chimpanzees from APF and instead allow them to be permanently retired.

Write to Ms. Sebelius using a customizable email from the Humane Society of the United States, then call her at 202-205-5445. You can also mail a letter to:

Kathleen Sebelius
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
200 Independence Avenue, S.W.
Washington, D.C. 20201

Do it for Negra, Foxie and Jody's children. Do it for all of the 202 chimpanzees at APF.

Please learn more and keep informed about this issue by following the CSNW blog.

Foxie
We are so happy to be celebrating Foxie's 35th birthday on August 8th, her third birthday at the sanctuary! We will do our best to top last year's troll-filled celebration.

Foxie has become increasingly goofy, child-like and full of spirit. Here are a few highlights of Foxie from our blog over the last month:

If you'd like to send Foxie a personal birthday donation, click here and leave a note saying "Happy Birthday Foxie" in the gift note box. We'll thank you on Foxie's birthday blog post.

Primate Patrol success
Primate Patrol, our program dedicated to ending the use of great apes and other non-human primates in entertanment, has met with success twice in the last month.

First, the CEO of Dodge personally responded to CSNW's Executive Director Sarah Baecklers polite and informative email urging him to pull the clip of the chimpanzee that was iaring in teir nationwide "tent event" advertising campaign. The portion of the ad with the chimp was removed from You Tube and is being taken out of circulation on television. For information on how to thank Dodge, click here.

Second, Whatcom Education Credit Union (WECU) pulled their print and online ad campaign featuring a baby orangutan and a young chimpanzee. This was the result of the feedback sent by those who receive Primate Patrol action alerts through our listserv and on Primate Patrol Facebook page. Please thank WECU for their action and let them know they did the right thing.

Merchandise survey - tell us what you want.
We're interested in your opinion about merchandise that we should add to our online store. We've set up a really short (only 3 questions!) survey. Take the survey today and let us know what you'd like us to sell so you can help advertise the sanctuary.
